On the too-fierce-to-be-ignored tip comes this amazing instrumental project from acoustic and electric trombonist Robin Eubanks and his power trio EB3. Eubanks - younger brother of “Tonight Show” MD Kevin Eubanks and nephew to jazz piano great Ray Bryant – is a powerful musician in his own right whose resume includes Grammy-winning work with both Michael Brecker and Dave Holland. For this dual CD/DVD project, Eubanks teams with drummer Kenwood Dennard and keyboardist Orrin Evans. All three flex their multi-instrumentalist capabilities by doubling on keyboard bass and percussion pads. The resulting music is fat with hip hop-funk, liberated by jazz sensibility and ballsy enough to rock with the rowdiest of contenders. The titles speak for themselves: “Mojo Jojo,” “Indo,” “Pentacourse,” “Blues for Jimi Hendrix” and “House of Jade.” R U curious yet?
