Somi
Red Soil in My Eyes
World Village
By A.Scott Galloway
Praised and profiled everywhere from Global Rhythm Magazine to “The Ananda Lewis Show,” Somi is a New York-based East African singer/songwriter making her debut with Red Soil in My Eyes a work of stunning strength and beauty that celebrates the lady’s Rwandese and Ugandan heritage. She sings in English, several African languages and even wordless vocalese all in delicate dulcet tones. Her music sways from a bossa nova sung in Swahili titled “Ingele” (a finalist in the John Lennon songwriting Contest) and a lovely string accompanied ballad titled “Circles” (about the journey of life) to the percussive and acoustic “African Lady” and “”Mbabazi”(a celebration of the African woman’s work ethic). 10 songs total, Somi’s debut lays at our feet the promise of a very long and fruitful future. (note: 10% of sales in April will be donated to SURF: Rwandan Survivors Fund).
