Three Stooges Collection Vol. 2 1937-1939

Sony pictures release of “The Three Stooges Collection Vol.2 is right on time. The capers of Larry, Moe, and Curly in this set covers episodic shorts between 1937-1939.

Presented chronologically, this two DVD set shares eight shorts from each year and are certainly some of the funniest ever made.

From 1937 we have:

Grips, Grunts and Goans  - Curly goes nuts in the wrestling ring and beat up everyone in sight  after having his feet tickled. This is basically a variation of some earlier themes the writers felt very cormfortable with.

Dizzy Doctors - In this episode led by Moe, the three takes over the Los Arms Hospital PA system as they attempt to be “snake oil” salesmen  hawking their panacea elixr “Brighto”

3 Dumb Clucks – Curly takes on a dual role in this episode. He plays his dad who is in the process of marrying gold-digger Daisy-Waisy.

Goofs and Saddles – This short along with 3 Dumb Clucks are among the most hilarious. In it the stooges takes on the role of U.S. Cavalry scouts tracking cattle rustler Longhorn Pete.

Cash and Carry – New to DVD, this short  Larry, Moe  and Curly come to the rescue of  polio-stricken Jimmy and his “Sis” who are reduced to living in the local dump because of the Great Depression.

Playing the Ponies – The stooges trade in their restaurant for a winning supposedly prize-winning racehorse, Thunderbolt. The hag of a horse blows away the field after Curly accidentally feeds it super-hot chili peppers and has a bucket of water waiting for the horse at the finish line.

Last Word

For some it won’t matter that only six of these 24 episodes are new to DVD. For those fans that have already bought  some of the existing Three Stooges DVDs, they can certainly be satisfied with the attractive pricing of this most recent product.

Fans will also appreciate the great transfers which shows the high standards that Sony employs in each of these type products.
