Gordon Chambers
Love Stories
(Chamber Music)
By A. Scott Galloway
Mr. Chambers is a journalist turned recording artist who has been honing his craft writing and arranging for others, including Anita Baker, the Isley Brothers, Yolanda Adams and Terri & Monica. For his second album, Love Stories, Chambers paints several vivid portraits of relationships - in various states of sensuality and unrest - and the single life. Noted for his lyrical sensitivity, earnest tenor voice and soulful first-class production choices, Chambers dazzles your senses with this richly varied disc. Highlights include the Grammy-worthy closing ballad “If It Wasn’t For Your Love,” the aching, pop-leaning “Unfair,” a duet with female soul dynamo Ledisi titled “To Love Again,” a mash note to the love songs of old titled “Violins,” the thumpin’ plea for reconciliation “Stay Together” (co-composed w/ Eric Bene’t it’s juicy to ponder the possibility of it being inspired by his relationship with Halle), and Chambers’ own version of the `90s smash he co-penned for Brownstone “If You Love Me” (as in “say it-show it-prove it”). Ladies are going to love this real man standing up, loud and proud, for real love.
